What is NASPI
The Nuova Assicurazione Sociale per l'Impiego (NASPI) is Italy's monthly unemployment benefit paid by the INPS social security institute to employed workers who involuntarily lose their job. It replaced the previous ASpI and Mini-ASpI benefits in 2015 and applies to all private-sector employees (with some exceptions for executives and agricultural workers).
2025 eligibility requirements
- Involuntary job loss (dismissal, end of fixed-term contract, resignation for just cause, or mutual termination in a protected venue)
- Declaration of immediate availability for work at the employment centre (CPI)
- At least 13 weeks of contributions paid in the 4 years prior to unemployment
- At least 30 days actually worked in the 4 calendar years prior to dismissal
How the amount is calculated
NASPI is calculated on the pensionable salary for the last 4 years. The monthly gross amount is 75% of the average monthly salary up to a statutory ceiling (updated annually); for the portion exceeding the ceiling, 25% is added. Starting from the 5th month, the amount decreases by 3% per month.
Duration
The duration equals half the weeks of contributions paid in the last 4 years, up to a maximum of 24 months. Someone who worked continuously for 2 years (104 weeks) is entitled to a maximum of 52 weeks (about 12 months) of NASPI.
How to apply
The application must be submitted to the INPS within 68 days of the end of employment, exclusively online (via the INPS website with PIN/SPID, through a patronato advisory service, or via the INPS Contact Centre). Payment begins from the eighth day after dismissal or from the eighth day after filing the application, whichever is later.
